The Journal of Advanced Military Studies (JAMS) is an open access journal that offers a forum for open dialogue between scholars, policy makers, analysts, and military leaders and of crossing civilian-military boundaries to advance knowledge and solve problems. JAMS is an open access journal, which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or their institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

JAMS uses a double anonymous peer review process to evaluate submissions. Subject matter experts who specialize in military history, national security, international relations, social science topics are recruited from internal and external agencies to support JAMS's annual publishing process. In addition to the above CFPs, the editors are also interested in new research for 2024-25 that discusses propaganda and information warfare in the digital age, political warfare, democracy, and the changing nature of government, PME and wargaming, mission command, and all things cyber.
