Colonel Matthew W. Breen

Colonel Matt Breen is currently assigned as Deputy Director, Leadership & Ethics Course Director, and USMCR Chair at Marine Corps War College, Marine Corps University, Quantico, Virginia.

 

Prior to his current assignment, he served as Branch Head, Reserve Affairs Personnel Policy, Plans and Programming, Manpower & Reserve Affairs, Headquarters Marine Corps.

 

A native of El Paso, Texas, he attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California in January 1992, and was assigned as an Aviation Ordnance Munitions Technician. Following Marine Combat Training and his Military Occupational Specialty schools, he transferred to Marine Aircraft Group - 41 and actively drilled for five years. In December 1998, he graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas and received his commission.

 

Colonel Breen is a Logistics Officer and served with both the active and reserve components of the Marine Corps throughout his career. His service includes various duties with II Marine Expeditionary Force Command Element, Marine Forces Reserve General Staff, and multiple Marine Corps ground and aviation elements at battalion, squadron, group and wing levels. He served as Officer in Charge for deployment and re-deployment support teams at I Marine Expeditionary Force in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, participated in Joint Task Force Katrina and Rita, and deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

 

Colonel Breen attended the U.S. Army War College where he earned a Master of Strategic Studies in 2019. He is also a graduate of the Marine Corps University Command and Staff College where he earned a Master of Military Studies in 2012.
