Foreign Professional Military Education

Officers are selected for a foreign PME assignment from the Top-Level School (TLS) or Commandant's Professional Intermediate-Level Education Board (CPIB/ILS) processes, conducted by the DC M&RA. Foreign PME provides a unique opportunity to learn of the peoples, mores, cultures, and a variety of perspectives on strategic and international issues. All foreign PME program completion results in joint professional military education (JPME I) credit. 

Officers desiring selection to this program should take the Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB) early enough for results to be available to their respective TLS/ILS Selection Board. The DLAB can be scheduled through your base education officer. The DLAB score does not expire and can be re-taken every six months. Class 4 languages such as Arabic, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin require a score of 110 or higher. A minimum score of 100 is required for all other foreign PME programs.
