Biography

Expeditionary Warfare School
Major Nicholas Hoeksema, USMC

Major Hoeksema is a Military Faculty Advisor at the Expeditionary Warfare School.

He was commissioned in the Marine Corps in August 2015. After graduating from The Basic School and the Infantry Officers Course, he reported to Company K, 3d Battalion, 2d Marines in December 2016. From January 2017 to April 2019, he served as the Weapons Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer in support of the battalion’s Unit Deployment Program (UDP) 18.2 to Okinawa, Japan.

From April 2019 until June 2021, Major Hoeksema served as the Executive Officer for Recruiting Station Cleveland.

He attended Expeditionary Warfare School during AY 2021-22 and then supported Officer Candidates School in the academic section during the summer training cycle.

From September 2022 until May 2025, Major Hoeksema commanded Company I, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines during the workup and deployment to Okinawa, Japan, in support of Unit Deployment

In September 2022, Major Hoeksema reported to 3d Battalion, 7th Marines and took command of Company I. From September 2022 to May 2025, Major Hoeksema served as the company commander for Company I in support of the workup and deployment to Okinawa, Japan, in support of UDP 24.2.

In June 2025, he reported to the Expeditionary Warfare School to serve in his current billet.

His awards include a Navy commendation medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star.

Major Hoeksema has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Calvin College.
