Major Berger graduated from North Carolina State University in 2011 with a B.S. in Political Science and was commissioned into the Marine Corps.
His early assignments included serving as a Rifle Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer in 1st Battalion, 9th Marines (1/9)—with whom he deployed to Helmand province, Afghanistan in 2013.
In 2014 he reported to 2d Battalion, 6th Marines (2/6), where he served as the 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander, completed the Marine Corps Advanced Mortarman’s Course, and deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard USS Kearsarge, which operated in support of EUCOM, AFRICOM, and CENTCOM.
In 2016, he joined Alpha Company, Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team as a platoon commander and deployed to Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Naval Station Bahrain, Manama. Additionally, he served as the Current Operations Officer for Marine Corps Security Force Regiment and then attended resident Expeditionary Warfare School (AY-2019).
Following that, he commanded a rifle company with 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines (1/2) and deployed to Okinawa. While deployed, he supported the Korean Marine Exchange Program in South Korea.
After returning to the U.S., he served as the Operations Officer while 1/2 was the Infantry Experimental Battalion for 2d Marine Division.
Next, Major Berger served as Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Columbus, Ohio for two years. He relinquished command when Marine Corps Recruiting Command restructured and then served as the Assistant District Recruiting Operations Officer, 4th Marine Corps District.
He attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College (AY-2025), during which he was selected for his current billet of Military Faculty Advisor at Expeditionary Warfare School.
Major Berger's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of 2nd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
