Marine Corps University
Sergeant Major George Garcia III, USMC

Sergeant Major George Garcia III enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and reported to Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego, California in October 1999. Following graduation, he attended Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, California and subsequently reported to the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, California for his Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training as a 2671. He continued additional training at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas.

SgtMaj Garcia held a variety of leadership and operational billets throughout his career, including:  Signals Intelligence Marine, Platoon Sergeant, Watch Chief, Company Gunnery Sergeant, Operations Chief, Company First Sergeant, Battalion Sergeant Major, and Regimental Sergeant Major.

He served with:  2d Radio Battalion, Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion at Fort Meade, 1st Radio Battalion, Inspector-Instructor Staff at 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines, and 3d Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35. He was later assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 4, 7th Communication Battalion, and 1st Combat Engineer Battalion.

In January 2022, he assumed duties as the Regimental Sergeant Major for Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group.

In March 2024, he reported to the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Camp Pendleton.

In July 2025, SgtMaj Garcia III reported to Education Command, Marine Corps University, where he currently serves as the Sergeant Major of Education Command.

His deployments include service with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and several overseas deployments for training across the Pacific region.

SgtMaj Garcia holds an M.S. in Transformational Leadership, a B.S. in Environmental Science, and an A.A. in Language.

His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3 gold stars), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 gold stars), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
