Colonel Mark R. Reid, USMC

Colonel Mark R. Reid currently serves as EDCOM/MCU Chief of Staff.

He was commissioned in June 1996 through the Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.   

Previous operational assignments include:  2d Battalion, 8th Marines; 3d Battalion, 8th Marines; 1st Battalion, 25th Marines; Headquarters Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force; Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan, and U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command in commander, operations officer, executive officer, and staff officer billets.  During these assignments, Colonel Reid deployed to the Caribbean, northeast Asia, South America, Africa, the Levant, and Afghanistan in support of security cooperation programs and Operations NEW HORIZON, IRAQI FREEDOM, and ENDURING FREEDOM.   

Previous supporting establishment assignments include:  Inspector-Instructor, 25th Marines; School of Infantry (East); Training and Education Command; Weapons Training Battalion, Stone Bay, NC; and Headquarters and Service Battalion, Fleet Marine Force Atlantic/U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command/ U.S. Marine Corps Forces Northern Command in commanding officer, executive officer, operations officer, and staff officer billets. 

Joint and Headquarters Marine Corps assignments include:  Chief, Strategic Allies and Partners Integration Branch, J5 Directorate, U.S. Special Operations Command; Deputy Director, Operations Division, Plans, Policy & Operations; and Director, Ground Combat Element Division, Capabilities Development Directorate, Combat Development & Integration. 

Colonel Reid has a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Union College in Schenectady, NY; a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies (with distinction) from the U.S. Naval War College; a master’s degree in Strategic Studies (with distinction) from the U.S. Army War College; and a Chief Learning Officer Certificate from George Mason University.
