DIRECTOR

Ms. Valerie Jackson - Valerie Jackson has more than two decades in federal service, principally as a United States Marine. As the Director of the Krulak Center, she leads a civilian and military team that creates programming and opportunities for all University students and faculty, Marines around the Fleet, and our partner organizations. Before coming to the Krulak Center, she was an arbitrator and non-profit board member in Dallas, Texas. Her areas of expertise include conflict management and resolution, civil-military operations, international relations, and strategic studies. She has led and commanded Marine units throughout her career, and has spent time as an instructor at the Marine Corps Civil Military Operations School and as the senior editor and field historian for the Marine Corps History Division. She is a current member of the Marine Toys for Tots Board of Directors and a member of the Northern Virginia chapter of Sheep Dog Impact Assistance, serving veterans and first responders.

 

ACTING DEPUTY DIRECTOR

LTC Jason "Jay" Palermo - LTC Palermo is the Special Operations Chair at Marine Corps University is attached from the Joint Special Operations University to the Krulak Center. His military education includes the Basic Airborne Course; Infantry Officer Basic Course; Ranger School; the Infantry Captain’s Career Course; the Special Forces Qualification Course; Indonesian Language proficiency course; Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape-Level C; the Combat Diver Qualification Course; Special Operations Jumpmaster Course; Army Basic Instructor Course; Modern Army Combatives Basic, Tactical and Instructors Courses; Advance Special Operations Techniques Level II; the Command and General Staff School and Joint Combined Warfighting School. LTC Palermo holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from SUNY College at Brockport, a Master of Arts from the University of Kansas in Global and Interagency studies, and a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Fayetteville State University. LTC Palermo is currently a Masters of Business Administration candidate with Websters University. He is married to the former Amy Willoughby and has two daughters, twelve-year-old Alexandria and seven-year-old Everly.

Inspired by its namesake, the Brute Krulak Center for Innovation & Future Warfare enables an interdisciplinary approach to complex problem solving, fosters an environment that enhances our collective warfighting capability, and facilitates and encourages novel solutions to current and future warfighting challenges in order to expand the Corps’ competitive edge and improve our warfighting effectiveness.
