Mr. Thompson is the Okinawa Campus Regional Director
He graduated cum laude from The Citadel in 2007 with degrees in Political Science and Spanish. After commissioning, he attended The Basic School and Communications Officer Course before joining the 7th Communication Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. From 2009 to 2010, he held leadership roles including Platoon Commander and Executive Officer, and participated in Talisman Saber with the Australian Defense Force, earning the Joint Service Achievement Medal.
In 2010, Mr. Thompson deployed to Afghanistan as part of Embedded Training Team-3 supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. He advised Afghan officers on operations, logistics, and combat leadership, earning the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medals, and contributing to a Presidential Unit Citation.
Returning to Okinawa, he supported Operation Tomodachi with Joint Task Force 505, aiding disaster response efforts in Japan. He later joined III MEF as G-6 Network Operations Officer and led initiatives integrating CENTRIX-Korea across MEF and US Forces Korea.
In 2013, he became Director of Communication Training Center-3, overseeing instruction for over 1,500 students annually and revitalizing courses for NCOs. Upon transitioning to the Marine Corps Reserve, he joined the III MEF IMA program, supporting exercises as a technical SME and deputy director of current operations. He was promoted to LtCol in 2024.
In civilian service from 2013 to 2019, Mr. Thompson worked at MCIPAC G6 as Service Desk Deputy Director, Service Desk Director, and Future Operations Officer. During that period, he also was EWSDEP adjunct faculty. Subsequently in 2019, he became the CDET Okinawa Campus Regional Chief Instructor for EWSDEP, and in 2024 he assumed his current role of Okinawa Campus Regional Director.
