Mr. Shigley was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1985. As a Field Artillery Officer, he served as a Battery XO with 5th Battalion 11th Marines, a Fire Support Coordinator for 2d and 4th Marines, a Target Information Officer for 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade and a Battery Commanding Officer and Operations Officer for 1st Battalion, 10th Marines. He also served as the Staff Secretary for the 2d Marine Division, Program Manager for Ground Command and Control Systems at Marine Corps Systems Command, and the Japan Country Director in the J5 at U.S. Pacific Command. His final USMC assignment was as the Deputy Director for the College of Continuing Education (CCE) at Training and Education Command. He retired as a LtCol in 2007.
Upon retirement, Mr. Shigley served as the Quantico Regional Coordinator for CCE as a contractor. In 2010 he became the Regional Director, Quantico Region for CCE as it transitioned to become the College of Distance Education and Training (CDET) at MCU. He presently serves in this position.
Mr. Shigley obtained a B.S. in History at the U.S. Naval Academy and an M.S. (with distinction) in Information Technology Management at the Naval Postgraduate School. In addition to the Basic School, Mr. Shigley attended the U.S. Army Field Artillery Basic Course, where he graduated first in his class. He also completed the Amphibious Warfare School resident course and the Command and Staff College nonresident program.
From 2014-2019, Mr. Shigley served over 5000 hours as a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician with the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department.
