Major Simmons holds a Bachelor of Science in History from the United States Naval Academy. He commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 2011. Upon completion of The Basic School, Second Lieutenant Simmons completed Infantry Officers Course and received orders to 2d Battalion, 9th Marines where he served as 1st Platoon Commander, Company G and Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Commander, Weapons Company. From October 2014 to April 2015, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of Unit Deployment Program (UDP).
In April 2015, First Lieutenant Simmons received orders to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines. where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer and Operations Officer. From October 2015 to June 2016, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of UDP.
In June 2016, Captain Simmons reported to Marine Corps Recruiting Station San Diego where he served as the Executive Officer until 2019. In June 2019, Captain Simmons reported to Maneuver Captain Career Course where he completed resident Professional Military Education (PME) program.
In January 2020, Captain Simmons reported to 2d Battalion, 5th Marines. While at 2/5, Captain Simmons served as Company Commander, Echo Company. From April to October 2020, Captain Simmons deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in support of SPMAGTF-CR-CC. Upon return from deployment, Captain Simmons received orders to 2d Battalion, 4th Marines where he served as Battalion Landing Team 2/4’s Operations Officer. From November 2022 to June 2023, Major Simmons deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit to INDOPACOM.
In July 2023, Major Simmons reported to Marine Corps Command and Staff College where he completed resident PME program. In June 2024, Major Simmons reported to the Expeditionary Warfare School where he serves as the Faculty Advisor for Conference Group 15.
Major Simmons’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with “C” Device.
