Lieutenant Colonel Lars Jansen, Norwegian Army

Lieutenant Colonel Jansen is an armor officer in the Norwegian Army. He has served in leadership positions on all levels within a mechanized battalion, including as a battalion commander. In addition, he has served at the Norwegian Land Warfare Center as a senior instructor and at the Norwegian Defence Staff as a principal staff officer for the Chief of the Norwegian Defense staff. Jansen has several combat deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.

He started his military career as a conscription soldier in the Norwegian Army in 1998. He graduated from the Armor NCO school in 2000.  

After graduating from the Norwegian Military Academy Lieutenant Colonel Jansen was assigned to the 1st Armor battalion where he served as a platoon commander in a conscription unit. In 2005 he was assigned to the Norwegian Army´s High Readiness Force, Telemark battalion, where he served three years as a platoon commander.

In 2008 he was assigned to the Land Warfare Training Center as a senior instructor.

In 2013 Lieutenant Colonel Jansen was reassigned to Telemark battalion, where he served as the training officer, a mechanized company commander and the operations officer.

In 2019 he was assigned to the Norwegian Defence staff where he served two years as the Chief of Defense Staff´s principal staff officer.

In may 2021 he was assigned to Brigade North as the battalion Commander of 1st Armor battalion. He ended his tour as a Bn CO in June 2023. 

Lieutenant Colonel Jansen has three combat deployments to Afghanistan and one combat deployment to Iraq.

Lieutenant Colonel Jansen is a graduate of the Norwegian Military academy in 2003, EWS/USMC in 2013, Norwegian Defense University´s Command and Staff Course in 2019, and the Marine Corps War College 2024.
