School of Advanced Warfighting
Colonel Cornelius Hickey, USMC

Colonel Hickey reported to Marine Corps University to serve as the Director, School of Advanced Warfighting in June of 2024.

Colonel Hickey attended Salve Regina University in Newport, RI and graduated in 1995 with a BA in Political Science with a minor in History. While in college, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve and served as an infantryman from 1993 to 1998. He commissioned via the Officer Candidate Course (OCC) program in the Spring of 1999 and was assigned as a Tank Officer. He received a Master of Military Studies and a Master of Operational Studies from Marine Corps University in 2010 and 2014, respectively. 

Colonel Hickey has served in all key leadership billets while assigned to 2d Tank Battalion, 2d Marine Division; and Battalion Command, Combat Instructor Battalion, The Basic School.

Colonel Hickey’s staff assignments include senior Marine instructor, U.S. Armor Armor Center, Fort Knox, KY; Tank and Antiarmor Integration Officer and Program Objective Memorandum (POM) lead, Combat Development Directorate, DC CD&I, MCCDC; Plans Chief and Deputy G3, 3d Marine Logistics Group, III MEF; Executive Officer, III Marine Information Group, III MEF; Assistant Chief of Staff G5 and Chief of Staff, Marine Corps Forces, Europe and Africa.

Col Hickey has deployed in support of combat operations in Iraq (Operation IRAQI FREEDOM), Afghanistan (Operation ENDURING FREEDOM), and with the 26 Marine Expeditionary Unit, Special Operations Capable (MEU-SOC).

Colonel Hickey is a graduate of the Armor Captains Career Course, Fort Knox, KY; Marine Corps Command and Staff College; and the School of Advanced Warfighting, Quantico, VA.
