Megan J. Hennessey, Ph.D.

Megan J. Hennessey, Ph.D. is the Director of the Academic Support Division and Institutional Accreditation Liaison at Marine Corps University. She is a member of the Editorial Board for Marine Corps University Press and a founding editor of the journal International Perspectives in Military Education. Dr. Hennessey created the Military Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (MSOTL) Forum together with Dr. Lauren Mackenzie (also of Marine Corps University); the forum has grown into an annual international conference with over 200 global organizations represented. 

Previously, Dr. Hennessey has held faculty and educational development positions at Air University, the U.S. Army War College, the National Geospatial-Intelligence College, the FBI Academy, and the Expeditionary Warfare School at Marine Corps University. Her research interests include the scholarship of teaching and learning within military learning environments, faculty development, and higher education. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from George Mason University, a M.A. in English from University College London, and a B.A. in English and Religious Studies from Hollins University.

 Dr. Hennessey’s recent publications include: “Effects of Immersive Learning Technologies on Learning and Engagement for Military Chaplains” in Innovative Higher Education (2024); “Shallow Strategic Thinking: Findings from a Multinational Problem-based Learning Pilot Study” in Higher Education, Skills and Work-based Learning (2024); and “Gendered Experiences in Professional Military Education: Implications for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” in Gender, Work & Organization (2024). 

 Dr. Hennessey is a member of the Defense Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP) Faculty Development Working Group, a member of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL), and a Non-Resident Senior Fellow with the University of South Florida’s Global and National Security Institute.

 She earned a direct commission as a Public Affairs Officer in the United States Navy and served as a Reservist.
