Scott Yost is a 27-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and joined the staff of the National Museum of the Marine Corps in March 2014 as the Operations Branch Chief. He is responsible for the physical structure, infrastructure, grounds, custodial, safety, and security support for the Museum building, itself, a 135-acre campus, as well as the other buildings which house the majority of the Museum’s staff and the non-displayed portions of the collection. He also supervises the general support functions of administration, contracts, fiscal, supply, information technology, and visitor services.
During his active-duty service, from 1980 through 2007, he performed duties around the globe and served in numerous assignments and billets in the logistics field, deploying to combat zones on four separate occasions, including Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Restore Hope, and twice to Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served as the head logistician for an infantry regiment and as part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit during two shipboard deployments. His staff jobs included billets at Marine Corps Doctrine Division, Marine Corps Headquarters, and Marine Corps University. His final active-duty assignment was the Operations Officer and acting Deputy Director of the National Museum of the Marine Corps.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, he worked for a major defense consulting firm. He provided input to numerous departments within the office of the Deputy Commandant of the Marine Corps for Installations and Logistics, and Marine Corps Systems Command as a logistics subject matter expert.
He attended Auburn University on the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program, graduating with a degree in history. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Averett University, a Certificate in Facility Management from George Mason University, and an Environmental Sustainability Certificate from the International Facilities Management Association.
