Sinan Ciddi, Ph.D.

Dr. Sinan Ciddi is an Associate Professor of National Security Studies at Marine Corps University (MCU). Prior to joining MCU, Sinan was the Executive Director of the Institute of Turkish Studies, based at Georgetown University (2011-2020). Between 2008-2011 he established the Turkish Studies program at the University of Florida’s Center for European Studies. He continues to serve as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.

Sinan is also a non-resident Senior Fellow on Turkey at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington D.C. He has published numerous articles on foreign policy and national security affairs in prominent outlets including Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy and the Dispatch. His book titled Kemalism in Turkish Politics: The Republican People’s Party: Secularism and Nationalism (Routledge, January 2009) focuses on the electoral weakness of the Republican People’s Party in Turkey.

Sinan holds a Ph.D. from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London in 2007 in the field of Political Science. He gained master’s degrees from SOAS in Turkish Studies (2001) and the University of Exeter, in political science (2002). Sinan graduated from King’s College, University of London, with a bachelor’s degree in business management (1999).
