Biography

Stase Wells is currently a Communications Instructor at the Leadership Communication Skills Center, Marine Corps University (MCU). She teaches classes, provides writing studio courses, and consults with students individually in the areas of written and oral communication for their respective degree-granting schools: Marine Corps War College, School of Advanced Warfighting, and Command and Staff College. Her experience in assessing progress in students’ written communication skills made Stase a valuable asset during the 2010 Quality Enhancement Plan Review.

Mrs. Wells takes a special interest in working with international students for whom English is a second language. Stase provides individual writing and speaking assistance to MCU’s International Military Students (IMS); additionally, she supports the IMS program and students by providing classes that prepare international students to pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language and fulfill Marine Corps University’s written and oral communication requirements.

Stase’s editing experience is extensive and includes writing, editing, and publishing support for Marine Corps University’s Communications Style Guide, the standard writing guide for MCU’s degree-granting schools, which is currently in its 10th edition. Other edited works include but are not limited to Operational Culture for the Warfighter: Principles and Applications (first and second editions); A Citizen’s Guide to Terrorism and Counterterrorism; and the 2012 anthology Aspects of Leadership: Ethics, Law, and Spirituality.

Mrs. Wells has presented at numerous conferences to include her panel presentation at the National Communication Association’s 99th Annual Convention in November 2013 and at MCU’s 2016 Faculty Development Conference. Recent panel presentations by Mrs. Wells include her work on mentoring practices in professional military education at University of New Mexico’s 9th Annual Mentoring Conference, and her acceptance of a presentation on the use of gaming in writing and grammar instruction to the College English Association’s 48th Annual Conference, March 2017.

Stase Wells has a B.S. degree in English (magna cum laude) with a minor in Communications from Central Michigan University, where she spent three years as a consultant at the CMU Writing Center assisting student writers at the graduate and undergraduate levels. She is a graduate student at Drexel University, where she is pursuing a master’s degree in Global and International Education.
