Biography

Richard L. DiNardo is Professor for National Security Affairs at the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College at Quantico, Virginia. He obtained a B.A. in History in 1979 from Bernard Baruch College, part of the City University of New York (CUNY). DiNardo received his M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in History in 1985 and 1988, from the Graduate School and University Center of CUNY, and assumed his present position with the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in January 1998.

DiNardo has an extensive record of publication. He has authored, co-authored or co-edited eight books on topics ranging from German military history to the American Civil War to the Royal Navy in the age of sail.

 

Aside from books, DiNardo also has published an extensive number of articles on a variety of topics in scholarly journals and professional military publications, to include The Journal of Military History, War in History, and Joint Forces Quarterly.His article, “The German Military Mission in Romania, 1940-1941,” published in the April 2013 issue of Joint Forces Quarterly, won the prize for best article in the “Recall” section of Joint Forces Quarterly for that year. He is currently working on a book on the campaigns of 1915 on the eastern front, which is due to appear in 2020.

Mechanized Juggernaut or Military Anachronism?: Horses and the German Army of World War II, published by Greenwood Press in 1991, remains the standard work on the subject
