4-57 Wargame Guidance

Narrator: With viable COA options identified for wargaming, it's now time for the commander to provide the OPT with wargaming guidance. The commander’s wargaming guidance identifies COAs that will be war gamed against specific enemy threats. He sets the level of detail required in the war game. He ensures that the selected COAs will achieve his commander’s intent to avoid wasting valuable time wargaming unsuitable COAs. The timelines are examined by phase or stage, considering critical events, to make sure they can be met. The commander may also reinforce and emphasize the importance of the main effort, and may also direct that specific weather conditions be considered in the war game.
