COS: Let’s look at some of our possible Centers of Gravity and the MEF Critical Vulnerabilities that we want to protect. Next, identify the enemy’s Center’s of Gravity so we can ultimately focus our combat power on their critical vulnerabilities. Be prepared to further define and expand this analysis during the planning session.

Analyze Centers of Gravity

Friendly Center of Gravity Analysis

MEF COG Critical Capabilities Critical Requirements Critical Vulnerabilities
Shaping Operations
Aviation Units Ability to conduct deep strikes
Massed fires
Secure forward air bases Irregular combatant's access to rear area
Decisive Operations
Ground maneuver units Maneuverability
Capability to conduct combined arms operation
Secure LOCs(sustainment) Long LOCs
Irregular combatant's access to rear area

Enemy Center of Gravity Analysis

Expand these analyses by identifying an additional critical capability along with its critical requirements and critical vulnerabilities for each Center of Gravity, to be offered for consideration at the next planning session. Use the given COG templates in the OPT toolkit for Phase III.
