1-16 G-3 Role

G-3: The G-3 Future Operations Section focuses on shaping the next battle, changes to subordinate missions, and develops branch plans and sequels. It is the nucleus of the Future Operations Operational Planning Team, or OPT. The future operations section coordinates with and fully integrates both the future plans division and current operations section into the planning process. It takes the outline plan from the future plans division and uses it as the basis for further planning. The future operations section also receives planning requirements from the current operations section that exceed its planning horizon. Efforts of the future operations section generate tempo internal to the force. The G-3 Current operations Section receives the operations order, or OPORD, from the Future Operations Section OPT at the transition brief. The current operations section transmits the operation order and coordinates its execution, monitoring operations of the force, tracking reporting commander's critical information requirements and operational environment information.
