Narrator: The definition of a campaign is a series of related military operations aimed at accomplishing a strategic or operational objective. In organizing a CJTF's campaign, the CJTF commander will frequently organize these related military operations into phases. Similarly, the MEF, as in Operation Barbary Sword, finds the CJTF phases very involved, requiring several actions and tasks for the MEF to accomplish in a relative large area of operation. Due to this complexity, the MEF will break its operation into several stages for the same reason the CJTF or COCOM campaign is broken down into phases, to better manage the flow of the operation and the many tasks, actions, and functions required of the forces prosecuting the fight.
