Narrator: It is important to continuously develop and refine staff estimates and estimates of supportability as planning progresses. Staff estimates are generally functional in nature such as intelligence, logistics, communications and information systems, and fires that often require subordinate unit information such as the ACE’s sortie calculations. Staff estimates also become the first drafts of their respective portion of the operation plan or order. Estimates of supportability should ultimately indicate the subordinate unit’s ability to support each COA and identify the risks associated in supporting each COA. See Appendix F of MCWP 5-10 for details and examples.
