Narrator: The third step of the IPB identifies the enemy center of gravity and analyzes enemy force capabilities, limitations, vulnerabilities, doctrinal principles, and the tactics, techniques, and procedures that enemy forces prefer to employ, as well as their current situation. Enemy models accurately portray how enemy forces normally execute operations and how they have reacted to similar situations in the past. They consist of three parts: adversary templates, descriptions of preferred tactics and options, and identification of typical high value targets. Enemy capabilities are depicted by broad COAs and supporting actions that the enemy can take to influence the accomplishment of the friendly mission. In conventional operations these COAs include offense, defense, reinforcement, and retrograde.
