Colonel Paul M. Melchior, USMC 

Colonel Paul “Milkman” Melchior assumed his current duties as Chief of Staff, Education Command, in July 2020. He hails from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1986. His enlisted tours included VMGR-252, 253, and 152 as a KC-130 Aircrewman/radio operator/loadmaster supporting 22nd, 24th and 26th MEUs and Operations Fiery Vigil, Uphold Democracy, and Sharp Edge. He was also selected aircrew as the KC-130 primary loadmaster supporting the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, Blue Angels.

He earned his commission through the Enlisted Commissioning Program with a Bachelors of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University in Aviation Management in 1995. In addition, he has attended Basic Officer Course, Aviation Maintenance Officers Course, and the Naval War College Command and Staff where he earned a Masters of Arts degree in Defense and Strategic Studies, and the National War College where he earned a Masters of Science in National Security Strategy. In addition, he holds a Masters of Aeronautical Science degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He also has completed the following schools and courses: Aircrew School, Survival Evade Resistance Escape (SERE), Airborne Radio Operator/Loadmaster School, Aviation Maintenance Officer School, and Advanced Logistics Operations School.

His service in the Fleet Marine Forces include: Airframes Officer, MALS-14; Maintenance and Material Control Officer, VMFA-122, MCAS Beaufort, SC; Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer, VMFA-212, Operations Officer, MALS-12, MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. Additionally, Colonel Melchior was selected as Foreign Exchange Officer to the Royal Australian Air Force, Three Squadron, and forward deployed as Senior Engineering Officer, Combined Task Force 51, Operation SLIPPER in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

His service in the Supporting Establishment include Executive Officer, Aviation Maintenance Squadron Two, Director of Training, MATSG-21, NAS Pensacola, Florida, AV-8B Harrier Assistant Program Manager for Logistics supporting PMA-257 in Patuxent River, Maryland, Commanding Officer, Center of Naval Education and Training (CNATT) Cherry Point, North Carolina, Instructor, Command and Staff College, Action Officer, G-3/5/7, Training and Education Command; Wargaming Director, Marine Corps Warfighting Lab, Futures Directorate, Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia and Assistant Chief of Staff, Aviation Logistics Division, Fleet Marine Force Atlantic, Marine Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia.

His personal decorations include: Navy and Marine Corps Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4th award), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and Australian Active Service Medal.
