Michael N. Greenwald serves as the State Department Chair at the U.S. Marine Corps War College. Mr. Greenwald is a career member of the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State, class of Counselor. As a U.S. diplomat since 1986, he served in six countries and in Washington. He served as the Public Affairs Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, and the U.S. Embassy in Quito, Ecuador; as the Cultural Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan; and as the Information Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru. His other overseas assignments include Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Nagoya, Japan. In Washington, he worked as the Director of the Policy Implementation Division of the State Department Office of the Inspector General’s Office of Inspections, and as the Director of the Office of Strategic Communications of the State Department’s Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization (S/CRS). Mr. Greenwald earned a B.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.S. in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University (Industrial College of the Armed Forces), Washington, D.C.
