Status of Forces

In 1965, Headquarters Marine Corps created the "Status of Forces" as a way to capture the entire Marine Corps in a single document.  Issued daily and monthly, the Status of Forces captured the units, their commanders, locations, equipment and personnel.  The document remained essentially unchanged until the late 1980s when it was slimmed down and reorganized into the Operational Summary.  The Operational Summaries captured limited information --mostly those units deployed in major exercises or operations.  The documents were initially classified but were completely declassified by the early 2000's.
